Researcher and
geospatial specialist
at IUNG-PIB, Poland

Hi, I’m João.
I’m a geographer and have a PhD in soil science. I’ve worked in five different countries (see my CV), and by that I mean different cultures, both social and professional, which has contributed to the professional and cultural experience I have today.
Through this experience, I’ve discovered that I can easily adapt to different environments and can apply these experiences to other contexts. I enjoy working both independently and in groups.

Well, having introduced you a little about myself, I’ll now share my interests:

I’m a soil scientist focused on assessing soil health and its multifunctionalities. I use pedometrics and digital techniques as the main tools for my research. My research interests include:

  • Soil multifunctionality modelling (eg. soil function, soil-based ecosystem services)
  • Soil threats assessment
  • Proximal and remote sensing
  • Influence of global changes (e.g., climate, land use, management) on the terrestrial ecosystem
  • Digital soil mapping, machine learning
